The Florida Chapter of the NASA Alumni League was founded in 1989. Walt Kapryan served as the first president, and the Chapter has been in continuous operation since that time, with seventeen retired NASA leaders serving as president over the years. They include:
The current president is Richard Quinn.
The Florida Chapter is focused on bringing speakers to nine luncheon sessions at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex during the year to provide a broad base of information for members. In addition to hosting speakers at monthly luncheons, other Florida Chapter programs include:
- A session that is oriented towards education and often includes robotics demonstrations by high school competition champions in Brevard County.
- Scholarships awarded by the Florida Chapter to local FIRST robotics teams.
- A grant to the National Space Club Florida Chapter for the Brevard Space Days at the KSC Visitor Complex to bring Brevard County fifth grade students to a day at the Space Center to learn, experience meeting an astronaut, and encourage student interest in science, mathematics, and technology.
- A project to mentor young girls and women for careers in STEM activities.
There are other NAL projects periodically presented to address local needs, depending on membership interests. The focus is always on providing support to the space program through our state and local affiliations. See more at: www.nalfl.com
