The Florida Chapter of the NASA Alumni League was founded in 1986. Walt Kapryan served as the first president, and the Chapter has been in continuous operation since that time, with sixteen retired NASA leaders serving as president over the years. They include:
The Florida Chapter is focused on bringing speakers to nine luncheon sessions during the year to provide a broad base of information for members. In addition to hosting speakers, other Florida Chapter programs include:
• A session that is oriented towards education and often includes robotics demonstrations by high school competition champions in Brevard County.
• A scholarship awarded by the Florida Chapter to the robotics champion.
• A grant to the National Space Club for the Brevard Space Days at the KSC Visitor Complex to bring elementary students to a day at the Space Center to learn, experience meeting an astronaut, and encourage student interest in science, mathematics, and technology.
There are other NAL projects periodically presented to address local needs, depending on membership interests. The focus is always on providing support to the space program through our state and local affiliations.
